Autism Diagnosis
In Arkansas, an autism diagnosis requires evaluations by 2 of the following 3 clinicians:
- physician (M.D.)
- psychologist (Doctoral degree)
- speech-language pathologist (M.A. or M.S./CCC-SLP)
All 2 of the 3 clinicians listed above must agree on the autism diagnosis. Sometimes, an autism evaluation is done by a diagnostic team with all more than one clinician present; however, the evaluations can be completed independently. When you make an appointment at a diagnostic center, be sure to ask which clinicians will be evaluating your child and what their credentials are so that you can be certain that you’ll have everything you need to move forward after the evaluation.
